Fitness is a big deal in this city, and with the Dubai Fitness Challenge well underway, we really are on the way to making Dubai one of the fittest cities in the world. This health movement is exciting, it’s motivating, and we share exactly the same sentiment towards fitness here at Sun & Sand Sports. We caught up with Amy Fox, Health, Fitness & Skincare Blogger, and Dubai-based PT to find out what keeps her motivated and how she incorporates training into her healthy lifestyle.
SSS: Describe yourself in 3 words.
Amy: Ambitious, adventurous, passionate.
SSS: What drives you?
Amy: My biggest drive is seeing other people’s progression – in fitness, in health, and just life in general. I love nothing more than to put a smile on someone’s face and to be able to motivate them to persist in achieving their goals.
SSS: How do you motivate others to get involved in sport and fitness?
Amy: I show them how happy it makes me.
SSS: Do you prefer indoor or outdoor workouts?
Amy: Outdoor – all day, everyday! The more sunlight and fresh air, the better.
SSS: Morning or evening workouts?
Amy: Morning! It always puts me in such a positive space for the day ahead.
SSS: What’s your split of weights-to-cardio workouts on a weekly basis?
Amy: I always try mix up my workouts and to be honest I don’t have an exact number. My favourite is incorporating cardio into my weight training – one of the reasons I love CrossFit! I’m a huge fan of weight training and CrossFit forces me to do the cardio.
SSS: What do you think of the Dubai Fitness Challenge, and how are you supporting the initiative?
Amy: I think it’s the best idea Dubai has ever had – Sheikh Hamdan has really done a great job here and I am so excited to be a part of the initiative. There are so many people in Dubai wanting to change their lifestyle for the better, but most just don’t know how to do it or where to begin and this initiate is a great way to start. Keep an eye out for BARE.
SSS: What’s your take on supplements?
Amy: I think most people need some kind of supplementation, some more than others depending on their goals. There is definitely a time and place for them. the majority of people are so confused by supplementation but it’s actually very simple if you know how, what and when to take them. I am always willing to give advice and recommendations.
SSS: How important is a positive mental attitude when it comes to achieving fitness goals? How easy is this to maintain?
Amy: It’s 90% of how I get through all my training – without a good mental attitude you have nothing. It’s the most essential thing to have when training but the hardest thing to maintain, although it’s very possible with just a few adjustments to the way you think. My tip: Start by surrounding yourself with positive people!
SSS: Why is fitness so important?
Amy: I could never imagine my life without some kind of physical activity. As I get older I am starting to really realise the importance of movement. I want to be able to still move freely when I’m 80 years old – don’t you?
SSS: What do you think of intermittent fasting?
Amy: I’m not a fan of fads. I believe simple, balanced, healthy eating is the answer. Find something that works for you and stick to it.
SSS: If you could be a superhero, who would you be?
Amy: I believe I have a little Wonder Woman in me.
SSS: What is your go-to healthy meal?
Amy: At the moment it’s a kale and quinoa salad. I have this at least once per day, almost everyday.
SSS: What is your ultimate cheat day meal?
Amy: Burger, fries and lotus ice-cream. Yuuuuuum!
