It gets hard to resist a clearance sale, especially with great prices and amazing deals on your favourite brands. We’re bringing back the SSS Weekly Challenge with a few tips on how you can stay fit without straining your monthly budget.
When we say ‘stay fit on a budget’ we don’t mean opting for the lowest bargain; instead try supplementing your gym workouts with simple, pocket-friendly exercises to keep fit.
Using public transport to get from A to B is one of the most effective ways to stay fit on a budget. Taking the bus or metro to work not only curbs your daily transportation costs but can also help you achieve 10,000 steps or more in a day – with all the walking in between. According to Time Magazine, walking 10,000 steps a day reduces stress, hypertension, blood pressure and tones your lower body muscles. This method is most effective for those that work with tight deadlines – usually a desk job, and find it difficult to hit the gym right after work hours.
Don’t have the strength to do a push-up set? Try vacuuming your room or clean out your bookshelf. Housework is not only therapeutic, it helps you burn calories – it’s more taxing than it looks! Try mixing up your daily chores and make a set out of it. A fun playlist should put you in the mood to keep active.
Make the most of this weather by participating as a volunteer in local or community events like walkathons, yoga workshops, beach cleanup events etc. A social event opens up your mind and gives you a breather after a busy week. And needless to say, it doesn’t cost a thing!
If you find it difficult to prepare lunches everyday then make sure you order in salads or vegetable sandwiches. Foods like lentils, Greek yoghurt and soy are great protein supplements that help you budget your meals and keep a check on your daily protein intake.
