Innovation has never looked so good. The next generation of Nike Air shoes, the Nike Air VaporMax Flyknit, is a testament to this. From the first time Nike toyed with the idea of Air technology in the ‘70s, to the rise of visible Air Sole units in the ‘80s, and to the now full-length Air outsole of the new Nike VaporMax – the brand continuously redefines footwear sensibilities. It has taken the Nike team seven years to perfect the Nike Air VaporMax Flyknit, and now limited stock is available at Sun & Sand Sports online! Let’s take a closer look and find out what the hype is all about.
When Nike Air VaporMax Flyknit was officially launched early this year on Air Max Day it was, as expected, a frenzied affair. While previous Air Max iterations made “running on air” possible, the VaporMax literally takes you there with a completely visible, full-length Air Sole system. The Nike think-tank eliminated the midsole and directly attached the Air Sole to the upper. They went for optimisation over maximisation. Nike VaporMax sole uses less air, but more efficiently with the Air pods strategically placed to support your feet with every stride. The team likens them to small pistons.
The translucent Air Sole makes it look like you’re elevated on puffy clouds. Combine that with the ultra-light Flyknit and Flywire construction, and you’re practically floating. The Flyknit upper is engineered with woven yarns instead of multiple pieces stitched together – making it four ounces lighter than other Nike shoes. The stretchy knits are looser on the toe box for breathability, and they get tighter towards the heel. The fused overlay adds support, while the Flywire cable wraps the foot for a comfortable lockdown.
Since its debut, the Nike Air VaporMax line has dropped an assortment of colourways to match any personality. They’ve recently dropped their “Day to Night” collection because they know true runners are not bound by schedule. The pack features shades of Arctic Pink, Glacier Blue and Light Violet, inspired by colours of the sky at dusk and dawn. This one is blanketed in Violet Dusk and Plum Fog with flat tonal laces.
