Summer time is a season for dressing down, but as much as we like to frolic in flip-flops these sweltering months, style still needs to be considered. Casual can be classy too with the right choice of clothes and footwear – and the Timberland SensorFlex boat shoe is a good mix of outdoor fun and laidback cool. Boat shoes or top-siders are menswear classics that look great with chino pants or shorts, collared long-sleeves or plain tees. Whether you just want to pull off the preppy style or will be cruising on a yacht this weekend, boat shoes are perfect for that high summer style.

As the name suggests, boat shoes have a nautical history. They were originally designed in the 1930s by American avid sailor Paul Sperry, who struggled with finding practical shoes for slippery boat decks. His eureka moment came when he saw his dog easily managing an icy surface because of his paw pads. This inspired him to create shoes with similar herringbone groves on the soles for better traction. He made them white so they didn’t leave marks on the boat and matched them with medium to dark leather. Not much has changed since then, except boat shoes today have shifted from function to more fashion, and they present a sophisticated and versatile look that can be worn in many different ways.

The Timberland Tidelands and Lakeville two-eye boat shoes come in a suede and leather finish with the SensorFlex™ comfort system. It’s a triple-layer outsole with each component building up support, active cushioning and dynamic flexibility. The upper layer is firm to keep you comfortable and stable. The middle softer EVA foam layer is built for shock absorption, suspension and all-surface adaption. The bottom outsole is grooved and flexible for extreme traction, so no need to worry about skidding off slippery surfaces.

Timberland SensorFlex

Based on traditional hand-sewn construction, this shoe is made of premium full-grain leather and suede with authentic rawhide laces. Timberland SensorFlex boat shoes only feature top quality leather from silver and gold-rated tanneries, which means they are environmentally-friendly and promote sustainable practices. Not only are they easy and comfortable to wear, the Tidelands and Lakeville range for men and women comes in classic colourways of blue, black and the favourite brown.

The shoes make the man and the woman – they complete the outfit and reveal a bit of your personality. And the Timberland SensorFlex boat shoes have a lot of personality with tough technology to back it up.
