The Jordan Store Launches in Dubai

It’s not every day that a global sports, fashion and iconic brand comes to your city. And when the hype is this huge, you know it’s going to be special. The Jordan store launch in Dubai was all of these things, and more. The fourth brand store in the world after New York, Chicago and Hong Kong, and the second one outside the U.S., the Dubai Jordan store takes off with the aim to recreate the superstar legacy and serve all the regional basketball fans and sneakerheads with all the top basketball products that the market has to offer. With the iconic Jordan brand coming to the city, sneakerheads, ballers and fans everywhere were ready for the launch of the season.

The Jordan store opens to the public today, but Team SSS got in on the action at the exclusive preview event last night. As we made our way to the brand store, we could feel the excitement buzzing in the air as the region’s most-followed sneakerheads and Jordan fans gathered, sharing their stories and experiences across social media for all to see. After a short anticipatory wait outside the store at The Dubai Mall, the doors were opened to the lucky VIBs – Very Important Ballers. The store’s focal point featured the original Wings logo, installed on the back wall, and fans were greeted as they entered. Inside the brightly lit Jordan store is everything you expect it to be, with rows of legendary shoes and clothing apparel stacked on the walls, and a themed interior, with wooden floors embodying the typical basketball court design. The theme takes on the brand’s new design concept, which originated at Chicago’s 32 South State Street store, and celebrates the legendary Michael Jordan through art installations and historic displays.

To get in on the design details – the Jordan store features concrete grey sidewalls with a stenciled selection of Jordan’s most important icons. Sneakers featuring the iconic Jumpman logo grace the walls and shelves. Positioned behind exclusive glass panels are six of Michael Jordan’s most iconic shoes including the VI, VII, VIII, XI, XII and XIII. Sneakerheads went berserk at the incredible selection of product, sweeping up limited editions and taking videos and photographs to be posted online.

Jordan really is more than a sporting brand; it is a cultural icon that has connected with fans across the world and continues to resonate through innovative and up-to-date collections. This hard-core following has given rise to a global collective of fans that are willing to line up outside stores before sunrise, just to grab the latest releases. So what makes Jordan the cultural icon it is today? To begin with, the brand emerges from Michael Jordan himself. His spirit, personality and demeanour, both inside the court and out inspire the brand through its empowering design aesthetic and functional merits. After bagging the sneakers, tees and basketball gear, the celebrations continued at the Jordan Experience Zone at the The Dubai Mall ice rink. Pre-registered fans tried out the Leap Like Mike experience, nailing a slam-dunk while having pictures taken of that MJ moment. Fans were also given the exclusive opportunity to try out the new Jordan Ultra Fly shoes. T-shirts were personalised with Jordan Heritage logos, and in-store purchased shoes were customised to give everything that personal edge. Taking the brand experience further, special ‘shoe selfie’ booths took photos of newly bought Jordans so they could be shared online.
