Humans are born to run, to survive and adapt. And being the ambitious creatures that we are, we aspire to be the best and fastest runners. The new Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 34 powers that desire.

Its predecessor, the Pegasus 33, had an upper hand among running shoes released last year because of its versatility and fast feel. Just ask two-time Olympic Champion runner Mo Farah, who loves his Pegasus shoes. But rather than a new iteration of the series, the Pegasus 34 is more like a fine-tuning of the 33 with more colourways to choose from. It is billed as a jack-of-all-trades shoe, which can handle sprints to long distances. And like its namesake, the mythical winged horse, the Pegasus 34 represents speed, strength and beauty.

SAME DNA, DIFFERENT APPROACH

The differences between the 33 and 34 are minimal but significant, especially for runners looking for that extra pep in their step. The 34’s seamless Flymesh upper has larger dilations than the previous one, which enhances breathability and reduces friction for lasting comfort. It’s also engineered with monofilament yarn to make it more durable yet lightweight. The Flywires are concealed this time for a sleeker look. And to address the problem of annoying laces coming undone, Nike flattened the laces for the Air Zoom Pegasus 34 for secured knots and better foot lockdown. The toe box is slightly wider for a more comfortable and natural toe splay.

Nike also retained the 33’s full-length Cushlon midsole foam and Zoom Air units on the forefoot and heel for better spring and response. By running shoe standards, this is quite a technically advanced underfoot cushioning system that delivers needed agility. The outsole remains the same with its strategic, raised rubber for added traction and ground impact absorption. Most notably, the twin strip rubber “crash rail” design promotes stability and smooth transition in any direction.

BOLD IN BLUE

The new colourways in different shades of blue also add to the Pegasus 34’s fresh appeal. There’s the dangerous blue fox, which looks more midnight black with bright crimson detail; the cool wolf grey gradating to bright blue; and the cute mica blue with racer pink. The flat tonal laces complement the colour scheme. Meanwhile, the reflective Swoosh on the sides and detail on the heel make running safer in low light conditions.
