Back to school for a brand new term, and with every new term, there are those bittersweet feelings the kids have about going back to school – it can be quite daunting, whilst being exciting – a bit of a ‘fear of the unknown’ type of feeling. Well fear not because the Sun & Sand Sports Back to School campaign kicks off with a whole action plan to getting the kids geared up for the new term ahead, whether it’s homework they’re worried about, or not being the ‘popular one’ on the team, we’ve got a whole host of SSS Survival Kits to get the kids school-ready to enjoy the term ahead. Let’s bring out the kids’ excitement as they impatiently wait to meet old friends and make new ones, to swap stories about their summer holidays, not to mention competing with their classmates to win the class popularity contest and hoping to score the highest grades this year.

One of the biggest back to school challenges is how to regain fitness levels and excel in school sports activities and tournaments after a long summer break from the school routine. Our Back to School series kicks off with Running, and will continue over the next few weeks as we cover Swimming, Football and Basketball tips too, so don’t forget to head back to the Sun & Sand Sports blog for all your BTS essentials.

Why is running so important?

Besides the fun part, running is a great way to increase fitness levels and to gear a child up for any sport – seeing as running is a basic requirement for many different sports. It’s also a great way to get the heart beating and blood pumping around the body – whether it’s running around the school playground, or training to become an Olympic athlete that your child is interested in. Students today have the opportunity to become running champions with the unlimited support and facilities that the schools provide – as well as after school clubs and sports teams to get involved in.

If your kid has the power and determination to take running to a higher level, let him/her start with the basics and build themselves up to gold with the right training tips, apparel and equipment from Sun & Sand Sports.

Don’t forget the warm-up

back to school

Much of the success in running is based on the warm-up part – it doesn’t matter if your child is into sprints or long distance running, it’s so important to get the muscles ready for action so that they aren’t shocked into quick movement without preparation. Just like studying for the big exam finals, you have to perform a proper warm-up so you are prepared for the race ahead. From stretching to planking, jumps and other techniques, check out the warm-up feature on the Sun & Sand Sports blog. This range of warm-up exercises can be applied to any age group for any range of fitness as the simple building blocks of a cardio workout.

Work your way up

back to school

For beginners, it’s better to start with short distances and gradually raise the bar. It is also a nice idea to join forces between parent and child and bond over your sport, by taking a simple jog around the park, or doing easy interval training with mini sprints and circuits. Both of you will benefit from the exercise and the time spent together. Sport is a great way to interact with your kids, and it’s such a healthy way to spend time together – outdoors if possible, to get away from the hustle and bustle of our daily routines.

Get the right gear

Having the right shoes and clothes helps your kids to enjoy running – in whatever form. And what’s great is that Sun & Sand Sports range is so varied, that it works for lots of different types of sports and age groups, with technologies to provide support and comfort, cooling mechanisms and sun protection, not to mention the latest trend-setting pieces that we all know the kids love to get on board with.
