Skateboarding has become far more accessible in recent years and in the local region too. With its own variety of skate parks, skater culture is catching on in a big way within the sunny Emirates. MINI CRUISERS

Mini cruisers are fun-sized boards that are a lot brighter and flashier in their design and overall aesthetic. Sometimes going by their other alias as ‘banana boards’, these four-wheelers are light, easy to carry around and are often used to cruise through the streets and over flatter terrains. Although these boards are not so well suited to more complex tricks, the mini cruiser does allow for a few jumps and flips, but ultimately the deck is most often used for getting from one place to another in style.

STANDARD BOARD

If performing skateboard tricks is high on your list, then getting a standard-sized skateboard is the way to go. Thanks to its sturdy build, the standard board is strong enough for you to try a nifty heel flip, or to spin on tough terrains, up hills or along concrete areas. This is the perfect companion to take along on short adventures around the city, and as you become more comfortable with riding the board you can also try your hand at numerous amateur competitions happening all year-round in Dubai.

LONGBOARD

Tagged as the longer version of the standard skateboard, longboards were designed with distance cruising in mind. What you will find when travelling with any other board is that a push to the deck in short spurts moves it ahead, whereas with longboarding an initial push is required to get things moving, then rocking it back and forth gets the deck going by creating momentum. The board is also capable of executing a few tricks like the odd jump, flip and spin, but essentially the longboard is a great deck to race through the city, and will easily tackle any winding street.
